Pre-New Zealand Introduction

Hello readers! I would like to introduce myself to all of you! My name is Lauren Boodry and I am a fifth year education major at the University of Oshkosh. I am writing this blog for all of you to follow me on my journey to the lovely country of New Zealand. I am going to fulfill my second nine weeks of student teaching in Wellington’s Lower Hutt. There is a large population of Maori people in this area. The Maori are New Zealand’s indigenous people. A few things that you need to know about me are that I love to travel, I enjoy pretty much anything that involves fresh air and the outdoors, and I love to meet new people. It is safe to say that I caught the traveling bug at a young age; I have also wanted to work with children my whole life. I am very lucky to be able to fulfill two of my passions in one life-changing journey.
So I have finally reached my final week in the states before I disembark on the biggest and best journey of my life this far! As my trip nears, I am taking big steps to prepare myself for the trip ahead of me. I have read up on the society, economics and politics in the country. I have also done research on the education system in New Zealand, which will benefit me greatly for the culture shock I am about to experience. Packing is another story. I am struggling to figure out how I am going to pack for 10 weeks of unpredictable weather. All in all, I am very excited for what I am about to experience and will be ready to role with the punches in every situation that may arise in the next week and the following ten weeks abroad. I have a strong foundation waiting for me in New Zealand and I cannot wait them all. I am especially excited to meet my 5 and 6-year-old students the day after I arrive!

☮ ☮ ☮ Bon Voyage or as the Maori would say: Poroporoaki (farewell)! ☮ ☮ ☮
